Overview:

Sticky Categories

Order items are added to a check in the sequence they are selected.
Kitchen prints and back of house screens arrange order items to optimize preparation.

By default, order items are sorted and grouped into their respective categories for display on the KDS.

See also: kitchen-display-system (KDS).

Modifiers from the same category hold their position relative to the item they modify.

For situations where order items should remain unsorted, we use a "Sticky Category".

Sticky categories maintain their sequence in which they are entered for display on the KDS.
They "Stick" to the previously entered order item.

This enables items to stay relative to the previous order item on the KDS.

The down-side is users need to switch categories when entering orders.

How to Create Sticky Categories:

Prefixing a category name with a "." identifies the category as "Sticky".

e.g. ".Extras"
